Deal in works for museum
A Seattle-based foundation expects to win approval next week to buy the defunct Pacific Northwest Museum of Natural History in Ashland and reopen it as a hands-on science museum.

Secret Service shoots gunman
WASHINGTON (AP) - A man brandishing a gun outside the White House fence was shot by a Secret Service officer today after a 10-minute standoff, officials said. The episode triggered a tight security clampdown.

Ashland's newest market opens doors
Crowds of morning shoppers walked the aisles, checked out the meat and deli selections and had complimentary sips of wine at the Market of Choice supermarket grand opening today on the former site of Meister's Buy Rite grocery store.

City forms living wage committee
The Ashland City Council unanimously approved the creation of a committee to develop a "living wage" ordinance despite strong disapproval from Ashland Mayor Alan DeBoer, who will end up choosing committee members.

Chancellor recommends OSU for new Bend branch
PORTLAND (AP) - Oregon State University should be selected to manage the state's first branch university campus, the chancellor of the Oregon University System said today.
