AHS wrestlers fall at state

Ashland High wrestlers Julian Ewald and Joe Hatch both suffered first-round losses in the OSAA Class 5A state wrestling meet Thursday at Memorial Collesium.

Ewald (189 pounds) lost a 9-4 decision to Cam Duckworth of Parkrose, then bounced back strong by pinning Nick McFelt of Jefferson in the first round of the consolation bracket. That win advanced Ewald, who can still place as high as third, into the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket.

Hatch, Ashland's heavyweight, suffered two pins: first by Shaun Palakiko of Cleveland in 1:51, then by Will Wienert of Madras in 1:46.
