Ashland girls blanked by Roseburg

ROSEBURG — Roseburg got goals from Brooke Strawn and Beka Lofstedt and defeated Ashland in nonconference girls soccer Thursday, 2-0.

The goal for Ashland (4-3-1) came in the 69th minute from Aspen Wolff, pulling the Grizzlies to within 2-1.

Strawn scored on a penalty kick in the 20th minute after Claire Ibarra was taken down in the box.

Lofstedt fired in a shot from a tight angle to the far post in the 56th minute. Strawn was credited with the assist on a through ball.

Roseburg (5-2) had 16 shots, including nine on goal. Ashland had three shots and made good on the only one on goal.

The Indians also led in corner kicks, 6-0.

Boys Soccer

Ashland benefited from strong combination play and defeated Roseburg, 3-0, in nonconference boys soccer Thursday.

The Grizzlies got two goals from Zahara Moyers-Cullumbine and a goal and an assist from Diego Harrison in raising its record to 3-4-1.

Moyers-Cullumbine tallied in the 37th minute, and the score didn't budge until Harrison, with an assist from Andres Garcia, tallied in the 66th minute.

Moyers-Cullumbine added a score in the 76th minute off a feed from Harrison.

Prep Volleyball

North Medford rebounded from an opening set loss and defeated Ashland, 21-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-15, in the nonconference match at Mountain Avenue Gym.

The Black Tornado improved to 6-4 overall as Mariah Williams amassed 10 kills and 23 digs, and Emily Otoski had 22 assists and three aces. Also, Emily Carlson notched five kills and three blocks, and Katy Carter served five aces to go with four kills and 12 digs.

The Grizzlies (3-5) got seven kills from Joy Harpham and 23 assists and two kills from Cassie Hall. Ashland recorded five service aces.
