Ashland volleyball team loses at G. Pass

GRANTS PASS &

Grants Pass came out firing in the first game, but Class 5A Ashland didn't go down easy in the final two games as the Cavers won 25-14, 25-23, 25-22, in a nonleague match on Tuesday.

The Cavers' Cami Bennett fired three straight aces to put the Grizzlies out of commission in Game — and had two more crucial aces to help the Cavers fight back from a five-point deficit in the third game.

Grants Pass (2-0) received eight kills from Chelsey Chamberlain and seven more from sophomore Bekah Holman.

College volleyball

Southern Oregon University sophomore volleyball player Lindsey Stone has been named the Cascade Conference setter of the week after her performance against Alberston College last weekend.

The award was the first for an SOU player this season and was the first for Stone, a former Ashland High standout, as a member of the Raiders.

Stone, a University of Oregon transfer, totaled 85 sets in her two matches last weekend, notching her second highest total (55) of the season Saturday night against Eastern Oregon.
