Ashlander turns 90

Ashlander Georgia Ross celebrates her 90th Birthday Saturday.

Family and friends are holding an open-house celebration on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. for coffee, cake, and some entertainment at the Ashland Bellview Grange on Tolman Creek Road.

Ross began her teaching career in 1940 in Tillamook after graduating from Monmouth. She moved to Ashland in 1948 where she attended Southern Oregon College of Education graduating with a masters degree. She first taught junior high school in Jacksonville in 1955, then taught at Ashland Junior High from 1956-1982 where she retired after a 30-year teaching career. Ross was named "Teacher of the Year" in1980 after teaching History, English, P.E., drama, and Block for many years.

Currently Ross lives in Ashland where she plays golf twice a week, exercises at the YMCA three times a week, and calls bingo at Linda Vista nursing home. She is a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi, belongs to a monthly book club, a cooking club, and still meets with former teachers for a monthly luncheon.

In her spare time, she has also volunteered for many years in the SMART program in the Ashland School District where she helps kids on a one-on-one basis. She is also found at the dog park daily with her dog "Blue."

Any former students, colleagues, friends, and acquaintances are invited to the open house party.
