Beavers beat Ducks in baseball Civil War

EUGENE — John Wallace singled in two runs in the fourth inning and Oregon State went on to defeat Oregon 7-1 Friday as the two teams resumed their Civil War rivalry that was suspended 28 years ago when the Ducks dropped their baseball program.

Tyler Waldron (2-1) allowed one run on five hits over seven and one-third innings for the win. Kraig Sitton earned the save for the Beavers (14-5), who have won six straight.

Tyler Anderson allowed three runs on six hits over six and one-third innings in the loss for the Ducks (10-13), who were without coach George Horton because of a three-game suspension.

It was the Pacific-10 Conference opener for both teams. The three-game series continues Saturday and Sunday at Portland's PGE Park.

Oregon brought back baseball this season for the first time since 1981, when it was relegated to a club sport because of budget constraints.
