Camp Gesher 2009 — A Bridge to Friendship

Ashland synagogues Temple Emek Shalom and Havurah Shir Hadash, unite to bring "Camp Gesher — A Bridge to Friendship" to the Rogue Valley. The day camp will, for the first time this year, offer two weeks of camp from Aug. 3-7 and Aug. 10-14 serving children entering Kindergarten through 5th grade in the fall.

Camp Director Andrea Shupack has worked in formal and informal Jewish education for 11 years. This will be her second year as camp director. Staff includes many well-trained counselors and specialists, bringing sports, art, music, Israeli dancing, drama, Jewish learning, outdoor activities, and more.

Each summer the camp has a theme, which inspires many of the activities. This year's theme is "Jewish Community Around the Word — We Are One."

"Since there is a Jewish presence in so many countries around the globe, we thought it would be a really fun focus to learn about the diversity of these communities — our similarities and differences, and how we are all united as a people," said Havurah Program Director Ayala Zonnenschein.

Shupack will work with each group daily leading them in song and other activities. Each group will have special field trips, including an outing to North Mountain Nature Park to do a program of learning and community service.

Camp is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Camp will be held on the grounds of Havurah Shir Hadash. On Friday evening, Aug. 14, all the campers and their families will gather in the Temple's garden for a farewell picnic and song circle, to welcome Shabbat together and bring a taste of camp for the families to experience.

Camp Gesher offers children in Ashland, locals and tourists alike, a chance to spend a fun-filled, spirited two weeks with a Jewish focus. Camp Gesher accepts children of all faiths and backgrounds.

Contact Shupack with any questions, or to receive a registration form. E-mail or call the Havurah at 488-7716, or Temple Emek Shalom at 488-2909. Registration is requested no later than June 8.
