Donald Lewis Atterberry

Donald Lewis Atterberry, 85, passed away in his home on Monday, May 9, 2011, after a long illness. He was born in Pasadena, Calif., on August 1, 1925, to Frank D. Floyd and Edith E. Atterberry. Donald was brother to many siblings, sister, Peggy Sue; and brothers, Richard, Paul, Robert, David, Larry and Tommy.

On April 1, 1961, Donald married his sweetheart, Bonnie St. John, in Reno, Nev. They were married for 50 years. They had nine children: four boys, Marvin, Richard, Donald, and an infant son that passed away; five girls, Donna, Debbie, Verna, Donnette and Dea.

Donald attended schools in California until the eighth grade. He then served in the United States Army during World War II in the Philippines. Donald worked most of his life as a log truck driver. He retired in 1988, but continued to work. Donald lived in Chico, Redding and Weaverville, Calif., and in Talent, Medford, and Gold Hill, Ore.

Donald enjoyed building bird houses, going to church, camping, fishing, reading the Bible and family get togethers. He was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, in Central Point, Ore.

Donald is survived by his wife, Bonnie; sons, Marvin, Richard and Donald; daughters, Donna, Debbie, Verna, Donnette and Dea; 24 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; one infant son; three granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.

A memorial service and viewing will be held at Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel, Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery, Eagle Point, Ore., Friday, May 13, 2011, at 12:30 p.m. Arrangements are by Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel 541-664-3361.
