End of world discussion Sunday

Author and researcher Sharan Newman will present "Mayans, Meteors and Bears, Oh My! End-Time Scenarios" in a talk from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 16, at the Ashland library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd.

Newman will read from her book, "The Real History of the End of the World," and share some of the research she found while working on this topic. Newman is a medieval historian and author, who earned her master's degree in medieval literature at Michigan State University and then did her doctoral work at the University of California at Santa Barbara in medieval studies, specializing in 12th-century France.

She has written novels set in the Middle Ages, including three Arthurian fantasies and 10 mysteries set in 12th-century France. She also has published nonfiction titles, including "The Real History Behind the DaVinci Code" and "The Real History Behind the Templars," followed by her more recent book on end-of-the-world theories.

The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Ashland Public Library. For details, call 541-774-6996 or visit www.jcls.org.
