She attended Sacramento Junior College for two years before transferring to the University of California at Berkeley, where in 1946 she graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in languages. That October, she married her high school sweetheart, Fred Noah, in Orland, Calif.

The couple moved to Seattle, Wash.; Lemon Grove, Calif.; and Los Angeles, Calif. before settling on Savage Creek in Rogue River in 1954. She was a social worker with the state until she had her three children, all of whom survive.
