Gaviglio steers Pilots to another victory

The Ashland Pilots continued their fast start with a dominating 10-1 nonleague victory over North Bend on Friday at North Mountain Park.

Sam Gaviglio pitched a complete game gem and added one of Ashland's two home runs as the Pilots improved to 10-1.

"They're playing really well," Ashland head coach Don Senestraro said of the American Legion A Pilots. "We have pitching, we have hitting and we play good defense. We do all the things we have to do to be successful."

Game 2 of the scheduled doubleheader was stopped with the score tied at 6-all; in an agreement with parks neighbors, the Pilots have agreed to turn the lights off after 9:30 p.m.

Ashland shortstop Owen Baldrica added a triple in the opener.

Ashland pitcher Tyler Killeen started on the mound in Game 2 and helped the Pilots build a 6-2 lead before the visitors fought back to tie it.

Ashland and North Bend meet again Monday at North Bend. The first pitch of Game — of the doubleheader is scheduled to be thrown at 4 p.m.
