Grizz boys slip past Churchill

Ashland got a spirited win from Clint Gorett and Min-oh Suh at No. 2 doubles to post a tough 5-3 District 4 victory over Churchill Thursday at Hunter Park.

The tandem defeated Robert Rudinsky and Corey Martin in a tiebreaker, then continued their outstanding play for a 6-1 win in the second set as the Grizzlies took three of four doubles matches.

Noah Kass added a win at No. 3 singles for Ashland, which dropped the top two singles matches. Jordan Alexander posted the other singles victory for the Grizzlies, beating Taylor Richie, 6-2, 6-2.

Ashland and North Medford host a 10-team tournament at District Courts in Medford. It starts at 9 a.m. today and resumes with the semifinals at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Prep Baseball

Since losing its Southern Sky Conference baseball opener, Ashland has been on a roll.

The Grizzlies picked up their seventh straight league victory Thursday, 7-1 over Eagle Point at North Mountain Park.

Charlie Sebrell (4-1) pitched six shutout innings, allowing four hits and striking out three. He also drove in two runs and scored once.

Ashland (12-3, 7-1 SSC) took the lead in the second inning. Ian Kendall doubled, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a fielder's choice. Lucas Stone walked and came around to score on an error to make it 2-0.

A three-run sixth put the Grizzlies up 7-0 lead. Hayden Miller opened with a double and Charlie Sebrell delivered an RBI single. After Lewis Sebrell was hit by a pitch, Garrett Tygerson plated both runners with a single.

Kendall and Miller had two hits each for Ashland.

Tim Zomerdyk and Deric Allen collected a pair of hits for Eagle Point (6-7, 3-3).

Boys Golf

At Eagle Point, Klamath Union's Seth Reynolds and Jackson Kensinger each shot 74 — both were even par on the front nine — to lead the Pelicans to a 343 team score and Southern Sky Conference win at Eagle Point Golf Club Thursday.

Ashland was led by Clinton Murphy (82) and Matt Naylor (86).

The Ashland Rowing Club will host a regatta Saturday and Sunday at Emigrant Lake.
