Grizz girls, boys earn SSC wins over Klamath Union

Carolyn Thomas, Riley Smith and Raven Susu-Mago each had one goal and one assist as the Ashland High girls soccer team trounced Klamath Union 5-1 Tuesday at North Mountain Park.

Ashland led 1-0 at halftime on Sofia Harrison's unassisted goal in the 31st minute.

The Grizzlies (4-5, 3-0 Southern Sky) scored two minutes into the second half on a goal by Annika Hearn off a corner kick from Thomas.

Then Thomas scored two minutes later on an assist from Danielle Halprin.

The Grizzlies took a 4-0 advantage on a goal by Smith in the 51st minute, with Kai Yearsley and Susu-Mago receiving credit for the assist.

Klamath Union got on the board in the 59th minute when Elizabeth Albertson boomed in a shot from 20 yards.

Susu-Mago scored on an assist from Smith to complete the scoring.

Boys Soccer

Ashland rallied after trailing 2-1 at halftime to defeat Klamath Union 3-2 Tuesday at Klamath Falls.

Neil Presicci tallied the winning goal in the 51st minute on a free kick just outside the left-hand corner of the 18-yard box after a hand-ball call against Klamath Union.

Reed Chasmar scored in the 18th minute to give Ashland (4-4-1, 3-0 SSC) a 1-0 lead.

Ted Wogan tied the game off an assist from Ethan Olson in the 36th minute. Then Olson, a senior forward, scored just before half.

Ian Murray's goal, assisted by Chasmar, early in the second period tied the match 2-all.

Women's Volleyball

The Southern Oregon volleyball team jumped ahead one spot in this week's NAIA Top 25 poll.

The Raiders moved up from 16th to 15th after sweeping Oregon Tech last Friday.

SOU is now 14-2 overall and 8-1 in Cascade Conference play.

The Raiders host sixth-ranked College of Idaho (13-1, 9-0) Friday night and Eastern Oregon (8-6, 6-3) Saturday night. Both matches start at 7 p.m.

College of Idaho handed SOU its only conference setback in Caldwell, Idaho earlier in the year.
