Grizz JV team wins volleyball tournament

The Ashland High junior varsity volleyball team went undefeated to win the Springfield volleyball tournament on Saturday.




The Grizzlies, coached by Tita Soriano, finished first in their pool before beating North Salem, Crescent Valley and finally Corvallis to clinch the 16-team fracas, which included both 5A and 6A schools.




Ashland had to come back to defeat Crescent Valley, 21-25, 25-21, 15-10 and beat Corvallis, 25-17, 25-19.

Ashland High moved up two spots to No. 5 in the latest Class 5A Associated Press poll, released Monday.




The Grizzlies trounced Roosevelt 35-14 on Friday to improve to 4-0. They are one of just four undefeated teams at the 5A level. No. — West Albany and No. 2 Mountain View also stayed perfect last week. The rest of the top-five includes No. — Sherwood (3-1) and No. 4 Wilsonville (3-1).




Ashland hosts Marshfield on Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
