Grizzlies go undefeated in water

The Ashland boys and girls water polo teams both went undefeated over the weekend at the Southern Oregon University swimming pool.

The boys earned a 16-8 victory over West Salem, a 16-2 win over South Salem followed by a 12-1 romp of Redmond and a 15-3 rout of Sprague.

Forrest Kollar scored five against South Salem and seven against Redmond. Adam Good had individual goal totals of five, three and three.

The girls picked up victories over West Salem (18-7), South Salem (14-4), Redmond (15-6) and Sprague (17-7).

Sarah Kasiah led the charge with 20 goals in four games for Ashland. In three out of the four games, Ada Lawson totaled 16 goals with Molly Cochrane going for 11.

The Medford boys and girls water polo teams had a rough go over the weekend at the SOU pool as both teams were swept in four games.

On Sunday, the boys fell victim to Sprague, which won 15-10. On Saturday, the boys fell to West Salem (14-12), South Salem (21-13) and Redmond (19-8).

Reid Gibson paced Medford with 20 goals over the weekend and Calvin Buchholz chipped in 13. John Walker had three goals in three out of Medford's four games.

Splitting time at goalkeeper, Geoffrey Pine and Richard Thomas combined for 74 saves — Pine with 53 and Thomas with 21.

The girls fell to Sprague on Sunday in a 17-8 decision. On Saturday, West Salem won 24-14, South Salem turned in a 14-7 victory and Redmond added a 24-11 triumph.

Jenna Cooper totalled 27 goals in four games, nine apiece against West Salem and Redmond.

Medford's Kacey Nowak notched six goals and goalie Anne Walker recorded 53 saves.
