Grizzlies straight-set GP

Jordan Tilley's pinpoint serving sparked an eight-point rally in the first set and Ashland cruised from there in a 25-14, 25-21, 25-20 nonconference win over Grants Pass on Thursday at Mountain Avenue Gym.

Tilley served up four aces to help the Grizzlies (2-2) take a 24-13 lead in the opening set, and finished with a team-high 21 assists and six kills. Also for Ashland, Madeline Wallace had 10 kills on 17 attempts, and Phoebe Challman 15 digs.

"She really led us tonight and it was great to see her play so confident," Ashland head coach Robin Akpan said.

Grants Pass fell to 2-5.

The Grizzlies next travel to Medford for Saturday's Rogue Valley Classic, a 32-team tournament that will include many of the top Class 6A and 5A teams in the state.

Starting at 8 a.m., Ashland will compete in a pool with Mountain View, West Albany and South Eugene. Ashland's pool play performance will determine which bracket it will compete in once the tourney moves into loser-out play.
