The Ashland High softball team lost 5-4 in eight innings to Douglas on Monday in the Grizzlies' final tune-up for Friday's playoff-opener.

Ashland (13-13) scored two runs in the seventh to send the nonconference game into extra innings and was in position to tie the game again in the eighth, but Chryssy Braught hit a line drive right to the second baseman to end the game.

"It was a good game to get ready for the playoffs," Ashland head coach Misty Potochnik said.

Ashland hosts Silverton in the Class 5A first-round game, scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. at North Mountain Park. Admission costs $7 for adults and $5 for students.

At Corvallis, Ashland is tied for fifth place after the first day of competition at the Class 5A state tournament at Trysting Tree Golf Club.

Ben Wright paced the Grizzlies with a 7-over par 79 while Austin Harfst and Cameron Clement both contributed with 80s.

"We didn't play well today," Ashland head coach John Skinner said. "We had like two or three bad holes for our top couple kids. They went from a possible 75 to 80 or 81, so we could have shot better but I think things (today) could be a lot better."

The tourney concludes today. The top four teams and top 10 individuals place.

"These group of kids have been together for four years so we'd like to bring home some hardware of some kind," Skinner added.
