James Joseph Frings

James Joseph Frings, 73, passed away on April 27, 2011. He was born March 7, 1938, in San Francisco, Calif., to John and Molly Frings. Upon his high school graduation, Jim joined the Marines. Once a Marine, always a Marine. Semper Fi.

Jim moved to Southern Oregon in the summer of 1970, and called Talent, Ore., home for many years before settling in Jacksonville. Once in Jacksonville, he became active working with the Jacksonville Police Department and later as a volunteer fireman.

After his retirement, Jim owned and operated Far West Gun Exchange. Reloading ammunition, hunting, competitive skeet shooting, buying, selling and the friends and conversations along the way are what Jim loved most. His expertise in this field will be missed by many.

Jim is survived by two children; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, all from Southern Oregon. Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Frank.

The family would like to once again thank his next door neighbor, Jacob Carr, for his life saving heroic efforts on November 15, 2008, entering a burning house to pull Jim safely outside, giving him two and a half more precious years of life.

A memorial service will be held this Thursday, May 12, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at the Eagle Point National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Jim requested that any donations be made to the Jacksonville Catholic Church.
