Jupiter's Beard at Caldera

Jupiter's Beard, featuring guitarists and vocalists David Elan Kelley and Colin Riversong, drummer Ian Riversong and bassist Kwessi Williams, will play at 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at Caldera Tap House, 31 Water St., Ashland. The cover is $3.

The band formed six months ago when the Riversong brothers and Williams, who had played together for many years, recruited classical guitarist Kelley, a Maryland native and Southern Oregon University graduate.

"Jupiter's Beard is the name of a flowering shrub that we found in North Mountain Park one day," Kelley says. "It's hard to choose a name, as any band will tell you, ... and this just happened to be the only name everyone agreed on."

The band plays original pop fusion with elements of rock, hip-hop and jazz, along with songs by Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson, Alice in Chains, Lionel Richie and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
