Lofstedt ties SOU pin record; AHS swimmers roll

Southern Oregon sophomore Mitchell Lofstedt tied his late father Brent's single-season school pin record as he led the fifth-ranked Raiders to a 2-1 mark at Sunday's Menlo Duals in Atherton, Calif.

Southern Oregon defeated Menlo 41-6 and split with a pair of NCAA Division I programs, defeating UC Davis 24-16 and falling to CSU Bakersfield 29-12.

Southern Oregon sits at 14-7 on the year.

Lofstedt, the top-ranked 125-pounder in the nation, came away with pins in matchups against UC Davis and CSU Bakersfield to tie his dad's record of 20 pins in a season. Brent Lofstedt accomplished the record during the 1982-83 season.

Lofstedt also defeated Menlo's Kiyoshi Kawano by technical fall, 18-3, to go a perfect 3-0 on the day. With 34 victories on the season, Lofstedt now needs nine more to break the school's single-season record of 42 victories, held by Wes Balensifer (2003-04) and Nick Cline (1996-97).

Southern Oregon's Jimmy Eggemeyer (149), Kyle Wirkuty (141) and Ron Lee (197) both also went 3-0 during the duals.

Southern Oregon will host Clackamas Community College on Saturday at 3 p.m. in an exhibition dual. The exhibition was originally scheduled for Sunday; admission is free.
