Missing Ashland teen found

UPDATED 3 p.m. Saturday: A 14-year-old girl missing from her Ashland foster home since Friday morning has been found unharmed.

Victoria R. Peckerman, 14, was found by Central Point police after they received a report she had been seen on the Bear Creek Greenway between Medford and Central Point, police said.

"She has been located in good health and is of no further interest," Ashland police said in a news release this morning.

Ashland Police Officer Bon Stewart joined Central Point police in the search Friday evening when a tip on Victoria's location was received from Gered Idarra. Idarra, whom APD Sgt. Hector Meletich referred to as "A Good Samaritan," made contact with the missing teen after recognizing her from a televised news story. Idarra offered her $20 for food, Meletich said.

Idarra encountered Victoria on a bike path walking north in Central Point, according to Meletich. Her destination was Portland. Idarra could not be reached by phone at the time of this update.

Officers found Victoria around 7 p.m. at the Pilot gas station in Central Point.

ASHLAND — A mentally-challenged Ashland teenager disappeared from her foster home Friday morning and possibly is on her way to Portland to visit her father, police said.

Victoria R. Peckerman, 14, was last seen at the home just before 10 a.m. She has attempted to run away before and usually ends up in Ashland or at her parents' home in Medford, Ashland police officer Bon Stewart said.

"Because she did not turn up in Medford (Friday), it caused us concern," Stewart said.

Ashland police have no reason to believe Peckerman was abducted, but she suffers from bipolar disorder and can easily be manipulated, Stewart said.

"She has other mental disabilities that diminish her reasoning ability," Stewart said.

Police believe she might be heading for Portland. When she runs away to Medford she usually takes a bus, though police are not sure how she planned to get to Portland, Stewart said.

Before she disappeared, Peckerman, a ward of the state after Department of Human Services officials removed her from her parent's home, made contact with a former day care provider in Portland.

She received word recently that her father would be conducting business in Portland and she hoped to contact him there. However, her father is not going to be in the city on the days she believes, Stewart said.

Peckerman is 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 125 pounds. She has light brown hair and hazel or green eyes. There is no description of the clothing she was wearing when she disappeared.

Anyone who sees Peckerman or has information on her whereabouts is asked to call Ashland police at 770-4783 or 482-5211.
