Mount Ashland season passes on sale

Season tickets to Mount Ashland ski area went on sale Wednesday and prices are down from past seasons.

Until Oct. 15, individual passes will be sold for $349 — $100 less than last year's price. Starting Oct. 16, season passes will be sold for $429 — $120 less than last year's price.

Rick Saul, marketing director for the resort, said the reason for the price decrease is that leisure service dollars are tight and industry competition for the dollar has increased.

"It's a matter of responding to the economic situation," Saul said. "People are looking for value."

When making price decisions, the resort looks at market indicators such as unemployment, the Consumer Confidence Index and competitor's rates.

"We are responding to the dynamics of the marketplace," Saul said.

Even the price for lift tickets is dropping back to $39 — down from $43 the past two seasons. Youth passes will also be $21 less than last year's fall sale price, with free ski check for pass holders between ages 7 and 12.

Other benefits for pass holders include discounts on purchases and lessons as well as a reduced daily rate of $20 per day at resorts such as Mount Shasta Ski Park, Hoodoo Ski Area, Ski Anthony Lakes and Ski Bluewood.
