New pastor at First United Methodist

Rev. Thomas E. (Ted) Myers has been appointed by Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference Bishop Robert Hoshibata to serve the First United Methodist Church of Ashland. He served the past nine years at Klamath Falls First United Methodist Church.

Myers received a Master's of Divinity degree from the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, Calif., in 1984. His undergraduate degree is from Eastern Washington University in 1979. He is also trained as a hospice chaplain. He worked at The High Desert Hospice and Klamath Hospice in the Klamath Basin. He also is trained in chemical dependency counseling.

Myers served as a United Methodist Missionary to Native Americans in the Alaska Missionary Conference at North Star United Methodist Church in Nikiski, Alaska from 1993 to 1998. He says that this experience enhanced his ministry.

Other churches he served include Lakeview and Paisley United Methodist Churches from 1984 to 1987, and as pastor from 1987 to 1993 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Toledo, Oregon.

Myers calls himself a teacher/preacher. He intertwines those skills with administrative abilities to make a well-rounded minister.

He and his wife, Sue, are excited to be in Ashland. They have two sons, each in college.
