Old Time Movie Night

Two science fiction adventures will be shown as part of The Christian Church of Ashland's Old Time Movie Night Series.

"The Thing From Another World" starts the evening at 6:30 p.m.

"The Thing" was made in 1951 and features an Air Force crew and scientists at a remote Arctic research outpost who fight an alien being.

Gunsmoke's own James Arness is The Thing, unrecognizable in a super vegetable costume.Howard Hawks directed this horror classic released by RKO Radio Pictures.

"Forbidden Planet," a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture, will be shown at 8 p.m. The sci-fi thriller stars Walter Pidgeon as Dr. Edward Morbius, Anne Francis as Altaira Morbius, Warren Stevens as Lt. 'Doc' Ostrow and Leslie Nielsen of "The Naked Gun" series fame as Cmdr. John J. Adams.

The 1956 film features a number of Oscar-nominated special effects, along with the first all-electronic music score and the debut screen appearance of "Robby the Robot," a fictional character who appeared in many science fiction movies.

The Spaceship C57D from "Forbidden Planet" was used in seven episodes of "The Twilight Zone."

Old-time snack bar ads will play between the two films. The box office opens at 6 p.m., and a snack bar will be open all evening. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. Call 482-1561.
