Ore. drivers face deadline to remove studded tires

The Associated Press

PORTLAND — Oregon transportation officials remind drivers with studded snow tires that it's time to take them off.

The Oregon Department of Transportation says the last day vehicles can have studded tires is March 31 — Tuesday.

After that, the Salem Statesman Journal reports, drivers can face a maximum fine of $145 if stopped or spotted by authorities.

The department says drivers venturing into Oregon's snow zones should use traction tires that meet Rubber Manufacturers Association standards and have a three-peaked mountain and snowflake on the sidewall.
