Ore. families' food stamps benefits to increase

The Associated Press

SALEM — The state Department of Human Services says federal stimulus money will help increase Oregon families' food stamp benefits by 13 percent.

Starting April 1, the state says, a family receiving $176 per month, the average amount, will get $200 a month.

A family of four receiving the maximum benefit of $588 per month will receive $80 more.

The state says that last month one in seven Oregonians used federally funded food stamps.

Officials say the increase will be added automatically to recipients' cards.
