Ore. State limited on signing day

Oregon State coach Mike Riley appreciates Sean Mannion's loyalty.

Mannion, a pro-style quarterback who played for Foothill High school in Pleasanton, Calif., gave his word early, and he followed through Wednesday with a letter of intent to play for the Beavers.

Riley said Mannion was the first quarterback Oregon State really looked at in the recruiting process, and both sides were able to establish a rapport.

Mannion is among 16 players in Oregon State's newest recruiting class. The Beavers had a limited number of scholarships to offer, so the team focused on specific needs — mainly on defense. The 2010 class includes five defensive linemen.
