Oregon Shakespeare Festival reaches another milestone in revenue, draw

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival has recorded another record in attendance and revenue.

A total of 414,783 tickets were sold for the festival's just-closed season, its 75th, up just over 1 percent from 2009's 410,034 tickets, the festival announced in a news release today.

Revenue this year, meanwhile, rose about 7.5 percent, from $17,098,115 in 2009 to $18,473,563 this year, the festival said.

Previously, 2009 was the festival's most successful season.

"These numbers are immensely gratifying, especially in light of the ongoing economic challenges facing our country and our audiences," said Executive Director Paul Nicholson in a statement today. "It's a testament to the vibrancy of the work on stage and the enduring deep connection our patrons have with the company. We could not be more thrilled."

The musical "She Loves Me" closed its season with 100 percent of seats filled, while "Hamlet" finished the season at 99 percent of capacity, "Twelfth Night" filled 98 percent and "Pride and Prejudice" at 97 percent. Shakespeare's "Henry IV, Part One" sold just 70 percent of seats.
