Pilots finish strong, sweep CP

CENTRAL POINT — The Ashland Pilots finished their season on a high note, using two solid starts from Caleb Bell and Nick Sanderson and some clutch hitting in the first game to sweep Area 4 power Central Point at the Crater High junior varsity field.

In the opener, Bell held Central Point to one earned run in seven innings and Ashland scored four runs in the top of the seventh en route to a 5-3 comeback win. Then in Game 2, Sanderson limited the Comets to one earned run in 5 2/3 innings and the Pilots jumped out to an 8-0 lead on their way to an 8-6 victory.

The wins sent the Pilots out on a five-game win streak with a final record of 14-17. They did not qualify for the state tournament.

Sanderson, Aaron Scott and Jerry Carroll keyed Ashland's comeback in the first game. Scott doubled, Carroll singled him home to cut the deficit to one and Sanderson's two-run single gave Ashland a 4-3 lead.

Carroll was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run, Shea Scott 3-for-3 with an RBI and Scott 2-for-4 with a run.
