Pilots storm back to complete A4 sweep

The Ashland Pilots scored three runs without recording a hit in the bottom of the seventh to overcome a two-run deficit and complete an Area 4 sweep over Cascade Christian/St. Mary's/Rogue River, Thursday at North Mountain Park.

The Pilots (13-5) ran their winning streak to six games by defeating the Wolfpack 8-3 in the first game and 5-4 in the second. Walks and errors cost the Wolfpack in the nightcap, as the winning run scored on a bases-loaded throw that struck the home plate umpire in the back.

In the opener, Ashland's Jack Carroll belted a triple that scored two runs, then scored himself after the ball was bobbled by an outfielder. That increased the Pilots' lead from 5-3 to the final margin.

In the second game, Ashland was hitless until Sky Lewis delivered a single to right in the bottom of the sixth. James Whelan and Carroll followed with singles of their own, as the Pilots cut a 4-0 deficit to 4-2 entering the seventh.

Ashland's doubleheader at Coos Bay today has been cancelled. The Pilots next travel to face Henley in Klamath Falls on Sunday.

Southern Oregon University will hold its inaugural sixth-to-seventh grade volleyball commuter camp July 16-18 at McNeal Pavilion.

The camp is for players who are entering sixth or seventh grade, or incoming fifth graders who play club volleyball. Four plans ranging in cost from $165 for no lodging or meals and one camp to $520 for lodging, meals and both SOU camps are available.

The SOU camp boasts an eight-to-one player-to-coach ratio and goes from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.
