Raiders eye high seed in conference

The Southern Oregon University volleyball team enters the final weekend of regular season play with a chance to lock down one of the conference's top seeds. SOU travels to Corban tonight and Concordia on Saturday.

The Raiders (17-9 overall), currently tied with Oregon Tech for second-place with a 14-3 record, won the season series over the Owls and therefore have the edge in a tie-breaker between the teams, and can secure the second seed in the conference tournament with a pair of weekend wins.

Pending two unlikely weekend losses, College of Idaho is on track to take the regular season Cascade Conference championship and will host the tournament semifinals and championship game next weekend.

Southern Oregon swept through Corban (12-11, 10-8) at McNeal Pavilion already this season. Corban's Rachel Gowen averages 2.60 kills per game, and Rebecca Franke leads the league with 4.75 digs per game.

The regular season-finale is set to take place at Concordia (16-11, 12-6), who the Raiders also took care of in three sets at home. Wortel and Samantha Yutzie had 12 kills apiece when SOU downed the Cavaliers at home.

Senior Lindsey Freyer leads Concordia with a 2.79 kill-per-game average on a .303 hitting percentage.

Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m.
