Raiders ranked No. 2 in NAIA Cup

The Southern Oregon University athletics department ranks No. 2 in the nation in the second Fall NAIA Learfield Sports Directors Cup standings.

Azusa Pacific is No. 1 with 276 points, while SOU is in second with 220.

The final fall standings will come out Dec. 23 after the completion of the NAIA football championship.

The point totals come from the five completed fall NAIA Championships: men's cross country, women's cross country, volleyball, women's soccer and men's soccer.

Southern Oregon made a big splash by winning the NAIA men's cross country championship and finishing seventh on the women's side. SOU also received points for a 13th place finish at the NAIA Volleyball National Championships. Points are awarded based on the program's finish at the NAIA National Championships.

College Wrestling

The 10th-ranked Southern Oregon wrestling team returns to action today when it takes part in Cal Poly Duals at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

The Raiders will wrestle three duals today then head to the Reno Tournament of Champions on Sunday. Southern Oregon opens today's action against NCAA Division I Cal Poly SLO at 11 a.m. SOU will then face NAIA rivals Menlo (1 p.m.) and Cal Baptist (3 p.m.).

Southern Oregon moved up to 10th in the latest NAIA Top 20 poll; Menlo sits at No. 9.

The Raiders enter this weekend with five ranked wrestlers. Tommie Hooper leads the group with a No. 3 ranking at 157 pounds. Austin Vanderford is ranked fourth at 174, followed by Kyle Wirkuty (fifth at 141), Tyler Thomas (ninth at 184) and Jared Dalgleish (12th at 133).
