Raiders romp past Owls

KLAMATH FALLS — The Southern Oregon University volleyball team made quick work of Oregon Tech Friday night at Danny Miles Court.

Freshman setter Lauren McGowne registered a career-high 28 assists and spread them out effectively to help the Raiders knock off the Owls on the road for the 12th straight season, 25-17, 25-19, 25-21, in Cascade Conference action.

Mona Goudarzian put down nine kills, Liz Madden and Tyana Andrews had eight apiece and McGowne added six digs and four kills of her own to help SOU to a .261 hitting average.

The Raiders (5-5 overall, 2-1 CCC), winners of five of six, are 30-1 against OIT since 2001. They're off until next Friday and Saturday when Concordia and Warner Pacific will come to Ashland for CCC matches.

The Owls (7-8, 1-2) hit at a dismal .040 clip, the lowest of any SOU opponent this season. Kelsey Sampson, Kylie Kitzmiller and Renee Baumann had six kills each but needed a combined 67 attacks to get them.

Nikki Keller controlled the net with a match-high seven assisted blocks and one solo for the Raiders. Andrews got in on five and the Raiders had 18 as a team.

SOU libero Renee Yomtob pulled in a match-high 13 digs.

The Raiders closed out the first set by taking six of seven points from the Owls — the last three on kills by Andrews.

They did the same thing in the second set, spurred by a couple of Paulla Pinheiro service aces, and never trailed after three straight attack errors gave them a 4-3 lead in the third.
