Raiders score easy nonleague victory

Southern Oregon scored three goals in a 13-minute stretch during the second half to pull away to a 4-1 nonconference victory over visiting Trinity Lutheran College Thursday at University Field.

"Our counter-defending was way better in the second half," head coach Jon Clement said after the Raiders improved to 7-5-1. "That led to better fluid possession, and our finishing was really good."

The Raiders scored first in the match as Chenin Young took a pass off a corner kick from Danielle Stave and knocked it into the left side of the goal from 5 yards out in the 22nd minute.

Trinity Lutheran (4-8-3) tied it up less than three minutes later, when Briann Oostinga drew SOU goalkeeper Jessica Kuehlwein out and bounced the ball past her for a close-range uncontested shot.

It was 1-1 at halftime but the Raiders had a 15-3 shot advantage and a 6-0 corner-kick edge.

Alexis Mahoney scored the eventual game-winner for the Raiders in the 64th minute. That goal was followed by scores from Serena DeChristofaro, with an assist on a long pass from Sydney Paulsen, in the 72nd minute and Stephanie Carr in the 77th.

Southern Oregon ended with a 29-4 shot advantage.

The Raiders next host Oregon Tech in a Cascade Conference game at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
