Rogue Valley Symphony Association seeks new executive director

The Rogue Valley Symphony Association has launched a national search for a new executive director to replace Cybele Abbett, who announced she is resigning effective May 31, 2014.

Board president Paul Smith noted that under Abbett's leadership, the organization sought and hired its current music director, Martin Majkut, expanded performances to include a new Summer Concert Series and added educational programs, including Link Up in the Phoenix-Talent elementary schools and Classical Coaches at middle and high schools. The symphony association's operating budget grew to more than $650,000 in the five years Abbett headed it.

In a prepared statement, Abbett said she was proud of the symphony's accomplishments and cooperative spirit. She said that now that her youngest child has headed off to college, she and her partner, Michael, plan a sailing adventure to warmer climates.
