Sept. 11 commemorated in Ashland

Ashland Fire & Rescue will commemorate the 9/11 anniversary at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, on the steps of Fire Station No. 1, at the corner of Siskiyou Boulevard and East Main Street.

All are welcome to reflect and remember the 2001 tragedy that killed 3,000 people. There will be a moment of silence and a bell ceremony to honor the 12th anniversary.

The fire station's lobby will be open afterward so guests can view the World Trade Center Monument, featuring an artifact from the site, along with a 9/11 painting by former Ashland firefighter William Phillips. Phillips' painting is also displayed at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Md.
