SOU men win national opener

Southern Oregon University's men's basketball team won its opening game in the NAIA Division II national tournament today, 83-66 over 14th-ranked Madonna at Point Lookout, Mo.

The 18th-ranked Raiders got 30 points and nine rebounds from forward Eric Thompson and 20 points from junior guard Kyle Tedder.

SOU (25-8) advances to the second round and will face the winner of the 6 p.m. PST game between third-seeded Northwood (Fla.) and host College of the Ozarks. The Raiders' next game is at 5:30 p.m. PST Friday.
