SOU opens National Duals vs. No. 3 team

The 12th-ranked Southern Oregon wrestling team will open the 2011 NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals against third-ranked Grand View Saturday morning at the University of Northern Iowa.

The meet features the top 16 teams in the NAIA competing in a double-elimination tournament format.

SOU (4-2) has won three straight duals heading into this weekend's tournament, including a 27-8 victory over Embry-Riddle last week at Menlo.

Senior Ron Lee was the star for the Raiders last weekend, winning his match in the dual and claiming the championship at 197 pounds at the Menlo Invitational, with two pins and a major decision. SOU finished third at the Menlo Invite behind NCAA Division I Cal State Bakersfield and NCAA Division II San Francisco State.

Based on winning or losing the opening round dual against Grand View, the Raiders will face the winner or loser of the matchup between sixth-ranked Campbellsville and unranked Montana-State Northern.

The tournament runs Saturday and Sunday.

SOU won the National Duals championship in 2009.
