SOU women edge Menlo in double OT

The Southern Oregon women's soccer team defeated Menlo College 3-2 in double overtime Sunday.

The Raiders (2-2-1) scored two of their three goals in the first half. Freshman Auika Muragin put the Raiders on the board first, taking a left side cross from Sara Switzer 30 minutes into the game. The goal was Muragin's first of the season and as a Raider.

Three minutes later, Menlo answered back with a Ryanne Bergstrom goal that was headed in from a Megan Finney direct kick. Sophomore Justina MacDowell made sure the Raiders were up at the half when she dribbled in towards the goal and firing an unassisted low left post shot that gave the Raiders a one-goal lead with only seven minutes remaining in the first half.

The lead held up until Menlo's Megan Gray nailed a left side cross from Kristina Leydecker with less than five minutes remaining, forcing overtime.

After one 10-minute overtime, the teams came out scoreless, pushing to a double overtime, where Kara Bradach scored her second goal of the season less than three minutes in.

Bradach's shot, which went in off Samantha Hoffart's block, was the second unassisted goal of the game.

The Raiders finished with only nine shots, eight on goal, while Menlo fired 21 shots, 13 on goal. SOU's Melanie Hopkins played all 102 minutes at goal, racking up 10 saves on the day. Hoffart served as goalie for Menlo, recording five saves.

SOU's Muragin led the team in shots and shots-on-goal with three each, while MacDowell tallied two each.

The Raiders return home for their first Cascade Conference game of the season Wednesday. They'll host Northwest Christian at 2 p.m. at University Field.
