Talent trailer park stabbing suspect caught

TALENT — A Nevada woman who allegedly stabbed her father's girlfriend in the head and chest with a box cutter Saturday night is being held in the Jackson County Jail in lieu of $2 million bail, Talent police officials said.

Talent police Chief Mike Moran said Chanelle Francine Riggs, 47, was arrested on charges of first- and second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.

The stabbing occurred in a Talent trailer park at 10 p.m. Saturday during Riggs' visit to her father's home. Her father left the trailer for a few minutes. While he was gone, Riggs and the stabbing victim, 55-year-old Sandra Loween Burke, got into an argument, allegedly over Riggs' visit, police said.

Riggs grabbed a box cutter and stabbed Burke three times, Moran said. Burke ran from the residence screaming and met up with Talent police, who had responded to the park following calls of a domestic dispute from neighbors, Moran said.

"(The wounds) were bleeding profusely," Moran said of Burke's injuries.

Burke was taken to Rogue Valley Medical Center, where the injuries were deemed non-life-threatening. Riggs, complaining of hip pain, was also taken to RVMC. Officers arrested her there.

Moran said alcohol may have been a factor in the incident.
