Where were you when the oldest non-native resident was laid to rest? The Tree of Heaven was planted more than 100 years ago between Lithia Park and the Plaza and was named the tree of the year in 1989. Old photos show the tree standing at least 20 feet high in the 1890s, and would suggest that the tree predates Ashland based on the photos.

We all should learn from the folks who captured the images of the tree because historians used the photos to determine the date the tree was planted.
