Theater students shine at state conference

The Ashland High School Theatre Troupe won the top honor for high school theater and garnered 17 individual awards and distinctions at the 2008 Oregon State Thespian Conference in Medford last weekend.

AHS presented "Little Shop of Horrors," one of three full-length plays chosen by the Board Showcase Selection Committee to be performed at the conference.

AHS theater students took home a plaque for their showcase and another for the Oregon State Thespian Honor Troupe Award, given to three out of 55 thespian schools in the state for overall troupe excellence and involvement in the school, the community and the production season.Ashland won this award for the second year in a row.

Winners in individual events were:

Rosetta Shaw, first place for stage management

Josh Houghton, first place for solo acting, first place for duo musical, first place for solo musical, conference workshop presenter on his upcoming role in the International Thespian Conference production of "Hairspray" in Lincoln, Neb.

Aubrey Bauer, first place for duo musical

Bobby Alter, first place for poster design, third place for poster design

Azalea Micketti, first place for costume design

Ally Backus, third place for T-shirt design

Rosetta Shaw, Oregon State Thespian Scholarship, $500.

Hali Alspach, state finalist, group musical theatre

Rosie Alspach, state finalist, group musical theatre

Natalie Edson, state finalist, group musical theatre

Tessa Williams, state finalist, pantomime
