University: Bellotti, UCLA talk about head coach job

Oregon football coach Mike Bellotti has discussed UCLA's open head coaching position with Bruins officials, a university spokesman said.

"He's acknowledging that they have spoken with him," assistant athletic director for media services Dave Williford told the Eugene Register-Guard on Thursday night.

Southern California newspapers first reported on their Web sites that UCLA administrators had met with Bellotti. The Los Angeles Daily News said Bellotti had been contacted by the Bruins earlier in their search but had balked.

Bellotti is in his 13th season as Oregon's coach with a record of 105-52.

The Ducks are 8-4 this season, having lost three straight games since the season-ending knee injury suffered by quarterback Dennis Dixon. They will meet South Florida in the Sun Bowl on New Year's Eve in El Paso, Texas.

The Bruins are seeking a replacement for Karl Dorrell, who was released from his contract Dec. — after compiling a 35-27 record in five seasons at the school.
