University names new marketing director

Southern Oregon University President Mary Cullinan announced the appointment of Christine Florence as the new executive director of marketing and communications for the university. She will begin her appointment on Jan. 14.

Florence is the former director of marketing communications at the State University of New York College at Brockport.

Florence's work with undergraduate admissions helped double student applications and increase student quality over a six-year period, according to an SOU press release issued Tuesday.

She also worked as the director of annual giving for Westminster College of Salt Lake City, where she raised more than $1.25 million per year. She earned a bachelor's degree in communications with a journalism emphasis from SUNY Brockport.

"I am very excited to join the strong leadership team at SOU during what I hope will be considered its renaissance," Florence said. "We have tremendous opportunity to share SOU's unique qualities and stories with potential students, donors and the region's residents, and to define its niche in higher ed."

Florence has 15 years of experience in the architecture/engineering/construction industry. She was a vice president and marketing consultant for Kenney and Associates and in-house marketing director at Engineering News Record Top 100 firms including Stantec Inc. and Terracon Consultants Inc.

"Ms. Florence brings experience, knowledge, and a strong background in marketing," said Cullinan. "I am delighted she will be joining our administrative team."
