Upward, outward, onward for Allyson's

Allyson's Kitchen on 115 E. Main St. is expanding in all directions &

additional space and a second store.

Tabu Restaurant and Martini Lounge decided not to renew the lease on its downstairs bar, and Allyson Holt snatched it up as soon as she heard.

"Almost from the beginning we've been wanting that spot," said Holt, who opened the two-story gourmet food, deli, wine, cooking instruction and kitchen gadgetry store with her husband, Steve, in 2000.

Holt said they will expand the deli operation, tear down a wall between the old and new area for more seating and add walk-in cooler space.

Allyson's Kitchen hosts a Five Wines for $10 tasting every Friday evening. Holt said it's typical to have 70 to 75 people attend the event.

"As you can imagine, the expansion is really going to help alleviate the crowding we experience during those events," she said.

Holt thinks construction, which hasn't begun yet, will be completed by this summer.

The Holts also opened their second store in Bend six weeks ago.

"Most of our energy is going into that store right now," she said. "Our ultimate goal is to open 10 stores."
