Veterans Day events

There are a number of ways veterans are being honored this weekend in and around Ashland, including:

Pancake Breakfast &

The American Legion Post 14 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 353 will hold their annual Veterans Day pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon Sunday, Nov. 11, at Pioneer Hall, 73 Winburn Way, Ashland. The breakfast includes ham, eggs, coffee, tea, juice and all the pancakes you can eat. Cost is $4, $2 for children under 12.

Celebration &

Retired USMC Col. David G. Dotterrer will be the guest speaker at the Veterans Day Celebration to be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Veterans Association Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics, 8495 Crater Lake Ave., White City. There also will be a patriotic tribute performed by the USAF Golden West Travis Band Quintet, a memorial tribute to Oregon's fallen soldiers with taps presented by Echo Taps' Kyle Roe and the colors will be presented and retired by the Young Marines of Camp White. Ceremony &

The Medford Parks and Recreation's annual ceremony to honor veterans will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in the Council Chambers at Medford City Hall, 411 W. Eighth St. Call 774-2401.

Medford PARADE"" Service organizations such as the American Heritage Girls, American Legion, Oregon Army National Guard, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, Korean War Veterans, the Siskiyou Chapter of the Oregon Veterans Motorcycle Association and representatives from Rogue Community College will participate in a Veterans Day Parade to be held Monday, Nov. 12. The parade will leave Hawthorne Park at 11 a.m. and follow Main Street to Oakdale Avenue. Call 326-5033 or see on the Web.

Concert &

Patriotic music to honor veterans and military forces serving the United States will be presented at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Medford Armory, 1701 S. Pacific Highway, Medford. The Swing Kings Big Band, led by Harry Kannasto and featuring vocalist Diane Hedges, will perform dance favorites from the '40s and '50s. At 8 p.m., The Southern Oregon Concert Band, a 75-member band under the direction of Yair Strauss, will present arrangements by James Henry Fillmore, John Philip Sousa, Glenn Osser, Bob Lowden and others. Recreation &

The Bureau of Land Management will waive recreation-related fees for veterans and military personnel, along with their families, on Veterans Day, Sunday, Nov. 11. The Veterans Day fee waiver takes place on Nov. 11, even if the Federal observance of the holiday occurs on a different day. This year, the Federal observance of Veterans Day falls on Monday, Nov. 12. Recreation fee-setting and waiver authority for the BLM and other Federal agencies is based on the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act, passed by Congress as part of a Fiscal Year 2005 appropriations bill that was signed into law by President Bush on Dec. 8, 2004.

Free Bus &

All veterans ride RVTV bus system-wide for free all day on Monday, Nov. 12, in celebration of Veterans Day. Just let your driver know you are a veteran.
