Where to be this New Year's Eve

Send 2013 out with a bang, a ball or a band. Here's a list of parties planned for Tuesday, Dec. 31, in Ashland.

ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum, 1500 E. Main St. The museum will host a Noon Year's Eve Celebration — to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — for kiddies who might not be awake at midnight. Children can make party hats and noisemakers and participate in an egg-drop contest. A youth quartet from the Rum Tum School of Music will perform at 11 a.m., and there will be a sparkling cider toast and a balloon drop at noon. Admission is $10, $30 per family. Ashland Elks Lodge, 255 E. Main St., Ashland. A dinner of roast lamb or chicken Marsala will be served from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. — followed by dancing to live music by The East Main Street Band. Gios Building, corner of Fourth and C streets. The 19th annual Global Peace Dance, an interfaith celebration featuring songs, sacred phrases and easy-to-learn dances of universal peace, will be from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is $10. Call 541-708-0681.

The Wild Goose Cafe & Bar, 2365 Ashland St. Guitarist Jeff Stanley, along with drummer Sandy Lowry and bassist Joey Capezza, will play original music and cover songs by Bob Marley, Robin Ford and Chuck Berry from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Party hats and complimentary champagne at midnight are included. Historic Ashland Armory, 208 Oak St. High-energy jazz and swing, along with burlesque and aerial performances, a full casino and prizes are on the bill for the 21-and-over "Bootleggers Ball," set for 8 p.m. The Bathtub Gin Serenaders will open the show for Portland-based swing band Johnny Boyd and the Insatiable Swing Lover Band. DJ Cyril Noir and performing artists Russell Bruner, Edie En Gard, Pink Lady and Dandra Dore also will perform. Costumes are encouraged. Havurah Shir Hadash, 185 N. Mountain St. The ninth annual Multigenerational Dance Party will kick off at 8:30 p.m. with live music — including klezmer and '60s, '70s and contemporary dance tunes — by Jerry Attrick and the Pacemakers. Advance tickets cost $15 or $33 per family and are available at Music Coop in Ashland. Tickets will cost $17 at the door, $36 for a family. Call 541-488-7716.

The Black Sheep Pub & Restaurant, 51 N. Main St. Flock to the pub for party favors and live music by The Southern Oregon Bagpipe Band. The show starts at 9 p.m., and there will be a champagne toast at midnight. The cover costs $5. Call 541-482-6414.
