Young gun comes up big as ESU tops SOU

Evergreen freshman Monica Ragan scored two goals to help Evergreen College clip the Southern Oregon University soccer team in a Cascade Conference game on Friday.

Ragan put the Geoducks (6-5-1) on the scoreboard 61 minutes into the game. She showed her speed as she controlled a loose ball, dribbled past defenders and punched a ground level shot between the legs of SOU keeper Melanie Hopkins.

Nine minutes later, Ragan connected again with a diagonal shot from the left corner of the penalty box to seal the Geoduck victory.

"Monica was the difference for us today," said Evergreen coach John Purtteman. "Both teams played good soccer."

Only two of the Raiders ten shots on were on target, but both were gobbled up by by Geoduck goalkeeper Katie Cagle.
