Chamber Communique: Celebrate the 4th with your fellow Ashland community

The 4th of July Celebration is right around the corner and we hope your plans are underway to celebrate with us. The Ashland Chamber brings you several opportunities to enjoy the holiday here in Ashland. Get involved and participate in the day by registering for the 2-mile and 10k runs coordinated by Ashland Parks & Recreation, be a spectator for the parade which begins at 10 a.m. at Triangle Park with the fly-over, participate with your organization by having a booth in Lithia Park, join in as a volunteer, or by having an entry in the parade.

Following the parade, you can hear a performance from the Santa Clara Vanguard Corps in the Plaza and take your family to the Family Activity Zone. Then, walk into the park to view the wonderful booths. After you have grabbed your favorite 4th of July bites and explored all that the booths have to offer, make your way to the Butler Bandshell for some live entertainment. To end the night, find a special spot and watch the public fireworks display (going off at roughly 10 p.m.) or buy a ticket to the American Band College and watch the fireworks to live music.

Each year the Ashland Chamber sponsors a free 4th of July Shuttle service which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from the Tolman Creek Road bus stop by Albertson’s to the downtown bus stop between 1st and 2nd Streets on Lithia Way. New this year: The parking for the shuttle will be at the Ashland Family YMCA parking lots at 540 YMCA Way (with the entrance off Tolman Creek). We kindly ask shuttle riders to not park in the grocery store lots this year.

Connect with the theme and celebrate “Ashland: Empowering Wellness through Community!” in your 4th of July outreach. This year, we wanted to highlight our community’s efforts to make Ashland a wonderful place to live and work through the power of wellness. Wellness not only means conscious healthy living, but Mind, Body and Spiritual wellness.

In June, purchase your event-themed T-shirt at the Ashland Chamber office or visit us the last two weekends in June at varying local grocery stores or on the day of the Fourth at the entrance to Lithia Park. The proceeds support the public fireworks show. Watch the Ashland Chamber’s social media outlets (@AshORChamber) for more information about an exciting crowdfunding campaign to help support the public show.

The best seat in the house to watch the fireworks is at the Ashland High School Football Stadium where you can not only watch the show, but also hear the 200-plus members of the American Band College perform award-winning music for their annual Star Spangled Spectacular Show “Ashland Pops.” This year’s show promises to be a night of great entertainment with an amazing cast of world-class guest performers. Featured guest artists will be the Canadian Brass and Marianne Gedigian, flute soloist. Tickets start at $19 and can be purchased at Cripple Creek Music, at the door that evening (starting at 7 p.m.) or online at www.bandworld.org/tickets.

All 4th of July information is available online at www.ashlandchamber.com/4thofJuly. To volunteer for the event, email kelsey@ashlandchamber.com.

And save the date for ROGUE Drum Corps International performance on July 5. Join Rogue DMI as four of the best drum and bugle corps in North America perform a benefit exhibition at SOU’s Raider Stadium in Ashland. The Santa Clara Vanguard, Troopers, Academy and Blue Knights are all scheduled to perform. More information will be available soon at www.roguedci.com.

We look forward to seeing you on the Fourth!

Kelsey Frantz is the projects and special events coordinator for the Ashland Chamber of Commerce/Travel Ashland.
