Prank suggests safe sex, alcohol for Oregon prom

Someone spent about $250 to suggest parents encourage their Lincoln High School students to use cognac and condoms on prom night.

An estimated 600 letters on school stationery with first-class stamps went to Portland parents announcing the prom and saying the school would abandon its abstinence policy and encourage safe sex.

A condom was enclosed.

The letter said parents could provide safe places to party after the dance, along with liquor. Cognac was suggested.

School officials figure a school directory was used for a mailing list. They also figure somebody is going to blab.

Says school district spokesman Matt Shelby: "It's a high school and students talk. Given the amount of exposure this has had, I'm fairly confident the school administration will find the source."
